Position: Temporary Long-Term Substitute Teacher (Regular Ed)

Overview

Temporary Long-Term Substitute Teacher (Regular Ed) at Walker/Beacon High School in Watertown, Massachusetts. Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of students.
  • Implement sequential units of study aligned to learning standards within the curriculum frameworks; plan developmentally appropriate lessons with a licensed teacher, and prepare materials for daily instruction.
  • Provide multi-sensory, multi-modal learning opportunities built on students’ prior knowledge to develop academic and social skills.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to report student progress, informing progress reports and IEPs.
  • Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and manage behavior in small and large groups.
  • Follow Walker policies and procedures and participate in required meetings and professional development.
  • Contribute to administrative functions of teaching and child care, including communication with families and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Lead classroom team, promote teamwork, and maintain documentation (points/time-out database, weekly logs).
  • Implement therapeutic treatment plans, including any necessary physical interventions per policy, and meet students’ physical needs in a safe environment.

  • Qualifications
    • Required:

      Bachelor’s degree in a related field; ability to attain a Massachusetts Moderate Disabilities 5-12 licensure waiver within 90 days.
    • Preferred:
      Master’s degree in Special Education or related field; MA licensure in Moderate Disabilities 5-12.
    • Experience working with youth with complex social, emotional, and behavioral challenges is preferred;
      Special Education teaching experience is preferred.
    • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
