Position OverviewThe Senior Scientist, Microarray Printing & Ultra-Low-Volume Dispensing, will serve as the technical lead for ultra-low-volume liquid deposition and microarray printing processes supporting the development and scale-up of a next-generation nanotechnology-based in vitro diagnostic platform. This hands-on role focuses on process development, equipment and process qualification and validation, in an FDA-regulated environment and works cross-functionally with assay development, engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust, reproducible, and scalable microprinting solutions.
This is an in-person role based in the Greater Boston area. Candidates must be in or willing to relocate to the Boston/Watertown, MA region.

PrincipalJob Duties and Responsibilities Microarray Printing & Dispensing Operations
- Day-to-day operation, optimization, and troubleshooting of ultra-low-volume liquid dispensing and microarray printing systems (picoliter to nanoliter scale).
- Develop, refine, and transfer microprinting processes for existing and novel biomaterials, surfaces, and chemistries.
- Control critical print attributes including spot morphology, volume consistency, placement accuracy, and reproducibility.
- Lead process development activities from early feasibility through design transfer and manufacturing readiness.
- Establish robust process windows and control strategies suitable for regulated production.
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies to resolve equipment, process, and material variability issues.
- Lead installation, qualification, and lifecycle management of dispensing and microprinting equipment.
- Author and execute IQ, OQ, and PQ protocols, and support process Verification and Validation (V&V) activities.
- Collaborate with equipment vendors, field application scientists, and internal engineering on tool optimization and upgrades.
- Develop and maintain controlled documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, validation protocols, and reports in full alignment with the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS) and compliance with applicable regulatory and consensus standards, including FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, CLSI, and other relevant global requirements.
- Apply statistical process control (SPC) and data-driven approaches to monitor and improve process performance.
- Interface closely with assay scientists, integration engineers, hardware engineers, quality, and manufacturing partners.
- Provide technical training and process qualification support to internal teams and downstream users.
- Act as a technical authority and escalation point for microprinting-related topics.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, bioengineering, chemistry, materials science, or a related STEM degree.
- Advanced degree is preferred
- 3-5 years of demonstrated, hands-on experience operating ultra-low-volume liquid dispensing or microarray printing equipment, such as M2 Automation, Scienion, Bio Dot, BIOSPOT, and Arrayjet.
- Direct experience with process development, documentation, IQ/OQ/PQ, process V&V, and design transfer activities.
- Proven ability to work independently while delivering high-quality technical outcomes on complex problems.
- Demonstrated aptitude for structured troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
- Experience applying statistical analysis and SPC to monitor and improve process robustness.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document and convey technical information.
