Job OverviewRadiation Monitoring Devices, Inc. (RMD, Watertown, MA), provides a dynamic work environment for performing world-class research and development in the fields of radiation detection and imaging, nuclear instrumentation, and non-destructive test equipment. Since its founding in 1974, RMD's research and development have resulted in breakthrough technologies and products that are utilized in a wide range of scientific fields, from space exploration to particle physics, and from nuclear security and safeguards to clinical diagnoses and environmental research.
RMD is seeking a Photonics Engineer with experience in the modeling and testing of photonic integrated circuits (PICs). You will support innovative research in integration of novel materials with PICs and fabrication of PIC components.
Key Responsibilities- Using computational approaches to optimize the design of custom PIC components.
- Leveraging software tools to layout PICs for manufacturing at commercial foundries.
- Working with materials scientists to augment PICs with novel materials.
- Conducting benchtop validation testing of PICs.
- Bachelor's degree in physics or electrical engineering.
- Some experience building integrated, fiber-optical and free-space photonics systems.
- Some experience with scientific programming tools like MATLAB and Python to analyze the propagation of light in photonics systems.
- Master's degree in a field related to integrated photonics.
- Experience in physics-based modeling of photonic components using tools from COMSOL, Ansys Lumerical etc.
- Experience working in a clean room, using lithography tools.
- Experience performing measurements to characterize photonic integrated circuits using instruments like lasers, fiber alignment stages, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Familiarity with the PIC engineering process, including simulation, layout, fabrication, test, and device operation.
