Job Overview

In the EHS Consulting classification hierarchy, this senior‑level role manages work in environmental, health, and/or safety areas with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills, work independently, and provide guidance on complex projects or issues. The position covers regulated solar and battery sites (8 total) in our renewable organization and also supports the WS‑Lee facility in South Carolina.

Responsibilities
  • Knowledgeable of the organization, procedures, and assigned customers; analyzes advanced‑level information to make appropriate recommendations to management or customers.
  • Monitors practices of the assigned EHS area to facilitate compliance with company and regulatory policies and mitigate risks.
  • Provides advanced‑level regulatory‑required and internal environmental or safety reports, training programs, and supports the development and maintenance of procedures and programs to assist facilities in complying with laws and regulations.
  • Researches, develops, and evaluates advanced‑level programs, policies, or activities with moderate impact or complexity; solves moderate problems using standard procedures.
  • Provides advanced information/consultation to management or customers on existing EHS programs and policies.
  • Develops and maintains procedures and programs to assist facilities in complying with environmental or safety laws and regulations, ensuring Duke Energy work procedures address compliance guidance.
  • Assists with tracking advanced‑level regulatory changes, legislative activities, and industry standards; identifies needed changes to facility compliance programs.
  • Works with federal, state, and local regulatory authorities to interpret regulations and laws.
  • Supports Duke Energy on internal and external industry committees and teams.
  • Develops positive working relationships with peers, customers, employees, and management to effectively complete work activities.
Basic /

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Health and Safety, Science, or a related degree
  • 6 years related experience
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree and 6 years of experience, HS Diploma / GED and 10 years of related work experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Health and Safety, Science, or a related degree
  • 5+ years work experience in power generation or transmission/distribution operations
  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices
  • Strong interpersonal abilities, influencing and listening skills, and a collaborative spirit to work across diverse backgrounds
Working Conditions

Work will be performed at a company facility. The office environment involves exposure to PC terminal and keyboard. Field, work‑site, and facility visitation is required.

Travel: 25-50% vehicle travel to field locations. Works in all seasons. Occasional overtime, weekend, outage, and callout work.
