Job Overview
Provides telephone prescription renewal services as directed by the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner, responds to client questions regarding medications, and coordinates indigent medication services for mental health clients served through the Watertown office.

- Return phone calls to clients with questions regarding prescriptions or medication side effects, as directed by the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner.
- Prepare prescription renewals for review and signature by the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner based on relevant clinical information documented in the medical record.
- Contact pharmacies to communicate prescription refill and renewal information.
- Coordinate scheduling of appropriate appointments or consults with the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner regarding treatment options and relay necessary information to clients and pharmacies.
- Coordinate the distribution, documentation, reordering, and inventory of medication samples and meet with pharmaceutical representatives as needed.
- Follow standard operating procedures for the indigent medication program, including utilizing the Indicare site and pharmaceutical company applications.
- Determine initial eligibility for the indigent medication program and process applications.
- Assist with the distribution of medication samples and indigent medications.
- Maintain accurate records of clients receiving indigent medications, including renewal dates, medications, and dosage information.
- Complete prescription documentation as directed by the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner.
- Administer intramuscular (IM) medications as ordered.
- Perform blood draws as ordered by the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner.
- Report laboratory findings to the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner.
- Maintain blood draw logs for billing purposes.
- Arrange courier pickup of laboratory specimens when necessary.
- Supervise the work of the LPN/Medical Assistant (MA) to ensure duties are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Coordinate the proper disposal of medical waste and sharps containers.
- Perform tuberculosis (TB) testing for new hires, as applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
- Current South Dakota LPN or RN license required.
- Psychiatric nursing experience preferred, but not required.
- Must reside within 60 miles of Watertown to ensure a timely response to crisis situations while serving on‑call.
