Role Description The Deputy Treasurer/Clerk is a full-time, on-site position located in Watertown, WI, responsible for supporting the financial and administrative operations of the City. This role typically assists with processing payments, maintaining financial records, reconciling accounts, and preparing routine financial reports. Day-to-day tasks may include handling property tax collections, utility billing support, and responding to inquiries from residents, vendors, and internal departments.
The position also helps with clerk-related functions such as maintaining official records, supporting elections administration, and preparing meeting materials and communications. The Deputy Treasurer/Clerk collaborates closely with the Treasurer, Clerk, and other city staff to ensure accurate documentation, compliance with regulations, and efficient customer service.
Qualifications
- Financial administration skills, including basic accounting, budgeting support, reconciliation, and accurate cash handling.
- Clerical and records management skills, such as data entry, document organization, and maintaining official municipal records.
- Customer service and communication skills, including the ability to respond to resident inquiries, provide clear information, and interact professionally in person, by phone, and in writing.
- Organizational and time-management skills to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced office environment.
- Technical proficiency with office software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, email), and the ability to learn municipal finance or records systems.
- Knowledge of or interest in municipal government operations, including property taxation, utility billing, and election processes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in accounting, finance, public administration, or related field, or relevant municipal experience, is preferred.
