CNC Lathe Set-Up Machinist
A growing precision machining manufacturer is hiring a skilled CNC Lathe Set-Up Machinist for a high-performance production environment focused on tight-tolerance machining and complex parts. This is a hands-on role for machinists who enjoy setup work, troubleshooting, prove-outs, and working with advanced CNC equipment instead of simply loading parts and pressing cycle start.
This position works extensively with Swiss lathes, twin-spindle, and twin-turret machines in a clean, organized machining environment, supporting precision manufacturing operations. The team is looking for machinists who take pride in quality, problem-solving, and continuous improvement. This position is located in Lake Mills, WI.
CNC Lathe Set-Up Machinist Benefits and Compensation:- $24–$39/hour based on experience
- 1st
Shift: Monday–Thursday- 5:00 AM - 3:00 PM
- Four 10-hour shifts: 3-day weekends!

Requirements & Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of CNC machining experience required
- Strong setup and prove-out experience on CNC lathes
- Experience with Swiss lathes, twin spindle, twin turret, or multi-axis turning centers
- Ability to edit programs, make offsets, and troubleshoot machining issues independently
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
- Experience machining tight-tolerance precision components
- Knowledge of cutting tools, tooling applications, feeds, and speeds
- Ability to use inspection equipment including micrometers, calipers, and CMMs
- Mechanical aptitude and strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced machining environment
- Valid driver's license required
Must Haves:
- Perform complete machine setups and changeovers
- Prove out new and existing programs
- Adjust offsets, tooling, and work coordinates as needed
- Monitor cycle performance and troubleshoot machining issues
- Verify dimensions using precision inspection equipment
- Maintain coolant, tooling, and machine condition
- Accurately complete production and ERP documentation
- Support Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
Skills:
- Swiss machining experience strongly preferred
- Background in medical device or aerospace machining environments
- Experience with high-mix, low-volume precision machining
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as JobBOSS or Epicor
- Exposure to Mastercam or Esprit environments
- Multi-axis machining experience
- Ability to mentor or assist less experienced machinists
- Strong troubleshooting and process improvement mindset
