Grade 6 Social Studies Teacher – Waterville Junior High School

Waterville Public Schools invites an enthusiastic, student‑centered educator to join our dynamic team as a Grade 6 Social Studies Teacher. This role focuses on fostering curiosity, engaging learners, and collaborating with colleagues to support every student’s growth.

Primary Responsibilities- Teach social studies to Grade 6 students.
- Foster inquiry-based learning through hands‑on activities, discussions, and real‑world connections.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including multilingual students and those with IEPs or 504 plans.
- Collaborate with colleagues to plan, assess, and reflect on instruction.
- Maintain regular communication with families and staff regarding student progress and classroom activities.
- Create a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel safe and valued.
- Valid Maine Department of Education certification (Elementary Teacher, 020 or appropriate endorsement for middle‑level social studies).
- Strong knowledge of social studies content and instructional best practices for middle school learners.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Willingness to collaborate with grade‑level and content‑area teams.
- A passion for working with early adolescents in a supportive and inclusive school culture.
