ADULT EDUCATION HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION INSTRUCTOR

ACADEMIC YEAR: 10-15 HOURS PER WEEK

MMRACE is a public adult education program serving adults in the Greater Waterville area toward their academic and career-related goals. We have sites in two communities within our service region:
Waterville and Oakland. This position will be assigned to the Waterville site.

MMRACE is seeking a dedicated and dynamic instructor looking for a part‑time schedule to join our team starting August 2026. This position will support adult learners in English/Language Arts and Social Studies as part of the Adult Secondary Diploma and HiSET (formerly GED) programs. The ideal candidate will be passionate about lifelong learning and committed to helping learners achieve their academic goals.

This position is a non‑represented, part‑time position with a competitive pay scale.

Mon and Wed: 10:00 am‑12:00 pm and/or 5:00 pm‑7:00 pm with flexibility for remaining hours to be determined.

Pay rate: $32.00 - $33.95 per hour

• Provide individualized and small group instruction in HiSET subject areas:
  Language Arts (Reading/Writing) and Social Studies
• Assess learners’ current knowledge levels and develop personalized learning plans
• Prepare learning materials appropriate to learner’s skill level
• Monitor and evaluate learner progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed
• Administer practice tests and provide constructive feedback
• Motivate and encourage adult learners, many of whom may be balancing work and family responsibilities
• Participate in regular professional development activities.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education

• Lesson planning & Instructional experience
• Bachelor's degree in Education, or a related field
• CHRC from ME DOE
• Conditional or Professional certificate endorsement as either an Adult Education Teacher or Grades 7-12 Teacher, in any subject, from the MDOE. English/Language Arts and/or Social Studies endorsement preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience and ability to work with diverse learning styles and backgrounds

• Experience teaching adult learners, preferably in a HiSET or GED program
• Strong online teaching skills to engage learners online and track their progress digitally
• Knowledge of College and Career Readiness Standards and/or English Language Proficiency Standards
• Proficient in educational technology and software
