The ESOL Coordinator for Teaching and Learning is responsible for overseeing and coordinating programming for multilingual learners, ensuring effective instructional practices that support their academic growth. This role collaborates closely with ESOL teachers and building leaders to collect, analyze, and interpret data, using it to drive informed instructional and programmatic decisions. The job includes providing job-embedded professional development that enhances classroom instruction.

By strengthening the expertise of classroom teachers, the ESOL Coordinator ensures that multilingual learners receive high-quality, differentiated instruction tailored to their needs. Through data-driven decision-making, strategic collaboration, and targeted professional learning, the ESOL Coordinator plays a key role in advancing equitable educational opportunities for multilingual learners across the district.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Oversee and coordinate programming for Multilingual Learners PK-12
  • Collaborate with the ESOL department and building and district leaders to meet the needs of Multilingual students and their teachers across the district
  • Collaborate with and provide coaching and instructional guidance to classroom teachers
  • Support staff awareness and working knowledge of the WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards and available instructional material/resources
  • Support teachers towards the implementation of key ML Instructional strategies (SIOP)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of administering, analyzing and using the results of various assessments as related to MLs
  • Assess students' language proficiency using the WIDA-MODEL as needed and facilitate the administration of the WIDA screener the annual ACCESS for ELLs assessment.
  • Assist families as needed with online registration.
  • Support family engagement including but not limited to attending open houses, planning family events, and collaborating with community partnerships.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree, Master’s Preferred
  • Maine State Teaching Certification with Maine English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement
  • Minimum of two years of experience with English Language Learners preferred
  • SIOP Training Preferred
