Job Summary

Maine General Health is seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Director of Treasury & Investments to lead the organization's treasury operations, investment strategy, and liquidity management. This leadership role is instrumental in safeguarding the financial strength of our health system while supporting long-term organizational growth and our mission of delivering exceptional patient care. As Director of Treasury & Investments, you'll collaborate with executive leadership, Finance, Revenue Cycle, Operations, and Legal teams to develop financial strategies, oversee investment performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and strengthen the organization’s financial position.

What You’ll Do

Lead the organization’s treasury function, including cash management, liquidity planning, and investment portfolio oversight.

Develop and maintain enterprise-wide cash flow and Days Cash on Hand forecasts by entity to support liquidity management, strategic planning, and executive decision‑making.

Develop and recommend investment strategies aligned with Maine General Health’s financial objectives and Investment Policy Statement.

Monitor investment performance, evaluate market conditions, manage financial risk, and provide regular reporting to executive leadership and Finance Committees.

Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations, and applicable federal and state financial reporting requirements.

Direct the preparation, review, and submission of IRS Form 990 and related regulatory filings.

Provide financial oversight and analysis of the organization’s employee health insurance programs, including review of claims experience, reserve adequacy, funding performance, and emerging trends.

Partner with Human Resources and external health insurance consultants to evaluate plan performance, identify financial risks or reporting concerns, and support informed decision‑making regarding employee benefit strategies.

Lead the financial planning and budget development process for the organization’s employee benefits programs, collaborating with Human Resources and external consultants to assess claims experience, funding requirements, reserve needs, and cost trends, while providing recommendations to support organizational financial objectives.

Serve as a primary organizational liaison with external auditors, coordinating annual financial audits and responding to audit inquiries.

Work with the Human Resources department to provide the information for the auditors to complete the Defined Benefit Pension plan audit.

Oversee the Defined Benefit Pension plan investments and insure that all pension related expenses are paid from the pension investment account.

Strengthen and maintain an effective internal control environment while supporting organizational compliance initiatives.

Direct the organization’s Uniform Guidance (Single Audit) compliance efforts, including oversight of the Grant financial activities, coordination of audit requirements, and response to auditor inquiries related to federal grant funding and compliance.

Partner with Accounting, Revenue Cycle, Operations, Legal, and executive leadership to support enterprise‑wide financial planning, governance, and strategic decision‑making.

Monitor changes in healthcare accounting standards and financial regulations, ensuring organizational compliance and proactive implementation of best practices.

Develop departmental goals, establish performance expectations, and lead continuous process improvement initiatives.

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required;
Master’s degree preferred.

Progressive leadership experience in treasury, accounting, finance, or investment management, preferably within a complex healthcare organization.

Strong knowledge of treasury management, investment oversight, cash forecasting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
