Mechanic, Trades ​/ Skilled Labor

Large construction company based in Herefordshire / Watford WD25 is looking for a skilled and experienced Van Mechanic for a full-time permanent position, working directly for the company.

• Service, maintain, and repair a busy fleet of Ford Transit vans, light commercial vehicles and company lorries.
• Perform general checks to keep the fleet operating safely and efficiently at all times.
• Carry out full and interim vehicle servicing.
• Perform engine repairs and replacements.
• Repair gearbox, clutch, and transmission issues.
• Fix brake system defects, including discs, pads, calipers, and hydraulic faults.
• Repair suspension and steering components.
• Replace timing belts and timing chains.
• Repair cooling systems, including radiators, water pumps, and thermostats.
• Diagnose fuel system problems and repair injectors.
• Find and diagnose electrical faults using diagnostic equipment.
• Repair wiring faults, lighting systems, and other electrical components.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and conduct regular inspections.
• Perform welding, fabrication, and general mechanical repairs as required.
• Diagnose faults quickly and efficiently to minimize vehicle downtime.
• Maintain accurate service and repair records.
• Ensure all fleet vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant with safety regulations.
• Carry out preventive maintenance and inspections across the fleet.

All fleet vehicles are under 3 to 4 years old.

Paye or self‑employed optional.

• Experience working on Ford Transit vans preferred.
• Good diagnostic and fault‑finding abilities.
• Proven track record with previous employers.
• Reliable, hard‑working, and able to manage daily workshop demands.
• Minimum five years of experience as a vehicle mechanic.
