Job Title and Core Details
Registered Nurse (RN) – Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE)/ Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) – Part time (48 hours of call per 6‑week schedule)
Responsibilities- Conduct forensic examinations of patients for physical or sexual abuse evidence, including physical, genital, and photographic documentation.
- Perform forensic interviews with victims to document incidents of abuse.
- Collect specimens, DNA samples, and photographs as required for court or police proceedings.
- Coordinate resources and support day‑to‑day operations to ensure smooth patient flow within the department.
- Provide direct patient care by applying the nursing process, developing and implementing care plans, and evaluating outcomes.
- Train and orient staff, provide day‑to‑day work direction, monitor performance, assign and review assignments, and adjust staffing levels to maintain productivity.
- Ensure compliance with medical center policies, Nursing department standards, and International Association of Forensic Nursing (IAFN) guidelines.
- Collaborate with management to develop and improve programs and services.
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the candidate practices.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by AHA (to be obtained within 6 months).
- Completion of an accredited nursing program. Illinois nurses must obtain an OAG certificate of completion after didactic and clinical log;
Wisconsin nurses must complete didactic and clinical skills training before independent practice. - Typically 2–3 years of acute‑care clinical nursing experience.
- Knowledge of developmental principles across the lifespan and ability to assess age‑specific needs.
- Proficiency in nursing interventions, evidence‑based care, and critical decision making.
- Computer skills: keyboarding, Windows navigation, email, and electronic medical record systems.
- Excellent communication, listening, interpersonal, and coaching skills.
- Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and anticipate learning needs.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply IAFN recommended practices.
- International Association of Forensic Nursing Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Adult/Adolescent (SANE‑A).
- International Association of Forensic Nursing Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Pediatric (SANE‑P).
- Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, up to 20 lbs. over head, and carrying up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Must use foot pedals on carts or machines and wear protective clothing/equipment as required.
- Exposure to chemical/hazardous waste, blood, body fluids, and communicable disease.
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch required for fine‑hand manipulation (e.g., IV insertion).
Per diem, part‑time with 48 hrs of call per 6‑week schedule.
