Under general supervision, performs tasks in a supportive role associated with the teaching-learning process. The Instructional Assistant may be assigned to assist one or more teachers on a regular basis in the planning and conducting of appropriate programs to reinforce the teacher's initial instructions. Work is performed under the direction of the classroom teacher and/or assisting teachers and principal.
Responsibilities- Assists the classroom teacher by working with individual students, small groups or large groups of students.
- Supervises students as assigned or required – at breakfast or lunch, on bus duty, during class, emergency drills, assemblies, recess, and field trips.
- Assists students with academic subjects; one-to-one, small group, or whole class support.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of licensed teachers.
- Participate in professional development and training sessions to stay updated on educational practices and policies.
- Help keep the classroom organized, clean, and conducive to learning.
- Exercises good judgment and works effectively with all school personnel, students and the public.
- Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
- Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
- Must have high school diploma or its recognized equivalent or
- Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education or
- Possession of an Associate's Degree.
- Submission of college transcript or Parapro scores if available.
- Previous experience in a school environment preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise students in the absence of a teacher.
- General knowledge of Microsoft Suite and Google Drive.
- History of excellent work attendance.
- Ability to perform duties of a sensitive and confidential nature.
- Time management and multi-tasking skills in a fast-paced work environment.
- Organizational skills and proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate computers, copying machines, fax or other office equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with school staff, students, parents and other visitors.
- Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative and exercise good judgment.
- Perform duties in a professional and personable manner.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to occasionally lift objects of 20 pounds or more.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
