Job Description Position Criteria
  • Valid State of Iowa teaching license, required.
  • Instructional Strategist II () endorsement, preferred.
  • Instructional Strategist I or Instructional Strategist II (BD/LD) acceptable; willingness to obtain Class B Instructional Strategist II () endorsement.
  • Previous classroom teaching experience at the 10‑12th grade levels, preferred.
  • Understanding of behavior function and ability to implement behavior intervention plans.
  • Successful secondary special education teaching experience.
Performance Criteria
  • Create and maintain healthy relationships with students.
  • Experience writing and implementing Individual Education Plans and corresponding Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the continuum of skills needed in community and independent living.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, high levels of motivation and enthusiasm when working with high school learners.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the elements of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and ability to apply that understanding to a team situation.
  • Understand and apply the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students, highlighted by a commitment to differentiating instruction for learners and meeting the needs of diverse learners, including all special populations.
  • Use multiple teaching methods: co‑teaching, collaboration, whole/small group, and individualized instruction.
  • Commit to ongoing professional growth and development as described in the Iowa Professional Development Standards and support of the Iowa Teaching Standards as the foundation for that growth plan.
  • Articulate oral and written communication skills.
  • Serve and meet the expectations for being a WHS student advisor.
  • Maintain accurate and timely grades and provide measurable and adequate feedback on student work.
  • Participate in secondary‑level professional development.
