Job DescriptionJoin the fast growth in Waukee Community School District as a Substitute Teacher for the 2026/2027 school year. Substitute teachers are a key part of the educational process. Hours vary from full days to partial days, with flexibility through the online absence management system. Compensation: $165/day (partial days paid on hourly basis); after 100 days worked in a school year, $170/day (partial days paid on hourly basis).
$175/day for retired Waukee teachers.
- Associate’s degree or 60 semester hours through a college or university
- Current Iowa License (teaching, substitute teaching, or substitute authorization)
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
- At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
- Associate degree preferred
Act within the substitute handbook and perform duties of the absent classroom teacher. Provide instruction and manage the learning environment. Report to the building principal or designee at the assigned location.
Selection ProcedureIf selected, you will be contacted by email. A criminal background check and a child & adult abuse check are required before an official start.
Long Term SubstitutesMany opportunities exist for long‑term substitutes in Special Education and General Education roles. Assignments of 6-12 weeks are not uncommon. Beginning on the 15th day, daily rate is $246.94 per day.
