Accountant / Bookkeeper
Regional Office of Education #47 | Sterling, Illinois | Full-time

Work Location:

2214 East 4th Street, Sterling IL, 61081

ROE #47 supports schools, educators, students, and families across Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside
counties. As our programs have grown, so has the work behind them: our office now has
approximately 100 employees and an annual budget of roughly $6 million.

We are looking for an accountant or experienced bookkeeper who enjoys keeping the details
right, solving problems, and helping a team serve its community. This is an opportunity to take
ownership of meaningful accounting work in an organization where your contributions will be
noticed.

What you'll do
  • ? Maintain accurate financial records for multiple programs and funding sources.
  • ? Process accounts payable and receivable, payments, deposits, and journal entries.
  • ? Reconcile bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and grant expenditures.
  • ? Prepare financial reports and help program staff understand their budgets.
  • ? Support grant reporting, year-end close, and the annual audit.
  • ? Help improve accounting processes as the office continues to grow.
  • ? Work closely with the Regional Superintendent, program leaders, and the rest of the
    finance team.
What you bring
  • ? Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or a closely related finance role.
  • ? Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage several deadlines.
  • ? Confidence with spreadsheets and accounting software.
  • ? Sound judgment when handling confidential information.
  • ? A helpful, collaborative approach to working with colleagues.

An accounting degree, public-sector or nonprofit experience, and familiarity with grant
accounting are welcome, but a CPA license is not required. We encourage you to apply if your
experience has prepared you to do this work, even if your background does not match every
item listed.

Pay and benefits

Salary range: 45,000 to 85,000 annually based on experience and certifications
Benefits: IMRF position with available health insurance benefits

ROE #47 is an equal opportunity employer.
