Who We Are:

Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

Organizational Relationship:

Under the primary direction of the building principal and secondary direction of the Area Superintendent, the Assistant Principal must be a passionate, student-centered, teacher-leader, who accepts the responsibility for ensuring the academic and social success of ALL Waukegan High School students. The Assistant Principal will play a pivotal role in the implementation of an aggressive 5-year high school transformation plan and is expected to support grade-level and departmental initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Drive and support the implementation of the School Improvement Plan and 5 year High School Transformation plan and beyond;

2. Serve on the school's Instructional Leadership Team (ILT);

3. Develop and maintain a positive academic culture while holding the school accountable for student achievement;

4. Provide coaching and feedback to teachers/staff to ensure school improvement plan strategies and instructional best practices are implemented;

5. Responsible for supervising the work of Department Chairs and Teacher Leaders;

6. Lead, develop, support, and empower grade-level teams and content teams to improve student achievement;

7. Ensure district-sponsored curriculum is implemented by providing ongoing feedback and monitoring to teachers; is appropriate for student grade/ability, prepares students for successful post-secondary experiences, and prepares students for success on mandated assessments;

8. Promote and facilitate instruction in conjunction with Department Chairs, Instructional Coaches, and the Office of Teaching and Learning;

9. Coordinate development of, collect, and analyze instructional, benchmark, and common assessment data to ensure student progress and program effectiveness and drive curriculum development and assessment;

10. Collaborating with Departement Chairs in the evaluation curricular programs on an ongoing basis and recommend new programs in conjunction with the Building Principal and in collaboration with the Department of Teaching and Learning;

11. Responsible for interviewing and making recommendations to the Principal and Area Superintendent for hiring;

12. Responsible for making master schedule recommendations to building Principal to maximize teacher effectiveness and support student learning;

13. Complete teacher/staff evaluations according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement;

14. Provide continuous monitoring of content delivery and instructional design via walk-throughs and evaluations;

15. Participate in the planning and implementation of professional development for content area members and High School staff;

16. Responsible for providing support to all teachers to ensure the development necessary to maximize student learning;

17. Manage and oversee inventory of curricular materials, instructional resources, texts, and equipment;

18. Collaborates with building staff to support students and their families;

19. Facilitates, communication between personnel students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, and or resolving conflicts;

20. Adhere to all WPS
60 board policies;

21. Ensure integrity of discipline and attendance records; as it relates to enforcing the Student Handbook and the district's disciplinary expectations;

22. Oversee Positive Behavioral Systems and Supports (PBIS) as well as discipline of students and ensure the implementation of the District Discipline Code;

23. Monitor student attendance and ensure the implementation of the School Attendance Policy;

24. Develop and implement discipline and attendance plans to increase student attendance and decrease out-of-school suspensions;

25. Support students with the MTSS process, providing interventions for students with academic, behavioral and social concerns;

26. Ensure the due process for all students, including those with IEPs and 504 plans;
