Who We Are:
Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 17,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

What We Need:
The Middle School Principal will lead the charge to ensure all students have access to high quality instructional. The Middle School Principal must have strong knowledge of standards-aligned pedagogy, paired with an ability to strategically and systematically implement improvement efforts to close the achievement gap.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Serve as the instructional leader of the building;
* Implement Board of Education policies, District instructional, academic, educational and support programs, and procedures with fidelity;
* Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment in cooperation with central office leadership, teachers, parents, students and community;
* Work with various audiences to plan, implement and communicate school improvement initiatives.
Related to Administration:
* Responsible for keeping records and reports as required by the Superintendent of Schools, the Board of Education and the State Board of Education;
* Creates a school climate characterized by mutual respect, professionalism, and a high level of staff and student morale;
* Keeps the Superintendent informed on matters that may affect the operation of the school system;
* Generates a sense of school community by communicating and involving varied audiences in shared values, beliefs and commitment to goals;
* Develops and implements administrative procedures consistent with local policies, state and federal rules and regulations, and contractual agreements.
Related to Staff:
* Works with the Associate Superintendent of Human Resources in implementation of administrative rules and regulations related to certified personnel;
* Responsible for consistent supervision of staff in their performance of assigned duties;
* Assists, as directed, in recruiting and interviewing prospective teachers;
* Responsible for assigning teachers and support staff within the school.
Related to Instructional Leadership and Program Implementation:
* Implements all District programs, (i.e. RtI, academic, behavior, special education, bilingual), essential expectations, and procedures with fidelity;
* Assists the Division of Instructional Services and Programs in planning, developing, coordinating and evaluating the instructional program and the school curricular theme;
* Monitors the use of time and implements teaching schedules in order to maximize time for learning;
* Initiates the placement of students in intervention programs to address individual student learning needs;
* Assign staff, based on data, to ensure that student achievement is maximized;
* Administers, coordinates, supervises and evaluates the implementation of the Board approved instructional program;
* Serves as a model of professional growth by keeping abreast of current educational trends and research and participating with staff in District-wide and building-level professional development opportunities;
* Schedules time so that a minimum of 51 percent of work year is devoted to instructional leadership;
* Conducts on-going assessments of the educational programs in the school, including the strengths and areas in need of improvement; the analysis of test results, attendance records, discipline reports, feedback from staff, students, and parents, and other forms of formal and informal data to guide school improvement initiatives;
* Manages the special education IEP process including scheduling, ensuring IEP compliance and implementation and monitoring services provided within the building;
* Completes fidelity checks in collaboration with school psychologists and provides information related to special education eligibility for all initial evaluations and reevaluations;
* Attends, monitors and supervises IEP meetings;
* Works collaboratively with the Coordinators for Related Service staff regarding the scheduling, evaluation and best practices as relates to Related Services Personnel;
