Position Details

Title:  Elementary Teacher (4th grade)

School: Saints Dennis and Joseph Catholic Academy, Lockport, IL

Position Type: Full-time - Benefit Eligible

Salary Range: $31,824 - $58,352 (determined by experience and education)

Position Purpose

The teacher is a ministerial employee working in a Catholic School and is expected to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. The teacher conveys the Catholic Church's message and carries out its mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Seek an understanding of and implement the educational and spiritual philosophy and procedures of the local school.
  • Strictly observe the Code of Professional Ethics.
  • Instruct children in assigned subjects, guide students' learning throughout the day, and adjust instructional level to meet individual student needs.
  • Attend professional duties such as lesson planning, preparing materials, helping individual students, reading professional literature, serving on diocesan staff committees, attending faculty meetings, and conferring with the principal on instructional and disciplinary problems.
  • Participate in all faculty meetings and prescribed in‑service training opportunities.
  • Attend teacher institutes as stipulated by the school and the Catholic Schools Office.
  • Complete Catholic Identity Formation Training and other required professional development from the Diocese of Joliet.
  • Supervise children and maintain discipline before, during, and after school.
  • Be present when classes begin and remain in the classroom during class periods except for emergencies.
  • Maintain knowledge of all information in each student's cumulative folder.
  • Secure the principal's approval for important communications with parents concerning school matters.
  • Encourage responsibility among students in conduct and behavior with peers and others outside the school community.
  • Contribute to the nurturing and advancement of the physical, mental, and spiritual well‑being of the students.
  • Make appropriate reports to the principal and parents concerning the educational growth and development of students.
  • Work with parents to assist them in their role as primary educators of their children.
  • Communicate professionally with all constituents including school administration, pastor, parish priests, colleagues, students, parents, and prospective parents.
  • Effectively use technology to enhance student learning.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the principal or pastor.
Education and Experience
  • Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or a valid out‑of‑state certificate from a state with which Illinois has reciprocity; or enrollment in an accredited program working toward professional licensure.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred; required to teach religion or theology courses.

Physical Abilities

The employee may frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, feel with hands, reach with arms, walk up or down multiple flights of stairs, and lift up to 20–30 pounds if needed.
