Job Title

Art Teacher – JW Eater Junior High,

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Building Principal, Director of Special Services, or Director of Curriculum, the Grade Level Teacher will plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students in 6th to 8th grade English/Language Arts.

General Qualifications
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field and an Illinois Teaching Certificate.
  • Understanding and experience with curriculum design, planning, and instruction.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
Staff Member Duties
  • Supervise students in a variety of school-related settings.
  • Monitor and evaluate student outcomes.
  • Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Plan, organize, and provide instruction based on Common Core State Standards.
  • Administer informal and formal assessments.
  • Incorporate district initiatives and adopted programs/policies into instruction.
  • Evaluate and assess student progress against instructional objectives.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessments, diagnosis, and research related to learning.
  • Provide written feedback to students.
  • Maintain accurate, efficient, and effective records for instructional and non-instructional purposes.
  • Manage classroom organization.
Other Duties
  • Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Work cooperatively with administration and staff to schedule meetings.
  • Participate in district-wide and building committees related to educational and employment matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Teaching Framework Responsibilities
  • Plan and demonstrate practices that reflect knowledge of content, prerequisite relationships, and specific instructional practices.
  • Seek knowledge of students’ backgrounds, cultures, skills, language proficiency, interests, and special needs.
  • Develop instructional outcomes with appropriate rigor and suitable for students, incorporating multiple learning methods and assessments aligned to Common Core Standards.
  • Use district or school resources to enhance teaching and support students who need them.
  • Design learning experiences aligned to instructional outcomes, addressing Common Core Standards and suitable for students.
  • Plan assessments aligned with instructional outcomes and use results to plan future instruction.
  • Maintain a friendly, caring, and respectful classroom environment that engages students.
  • Enforce classroom routines and manage instructional groups, materials, and supplies consistently.
  • Respond to student misbehavior consistently and respectfully.
  • Ensure the classroom is safe and learning is accessible to all students.
  • Communicate instructional purposes clearly, using accurate and appropriate language.
  • Use high-quality questions and prompts to engage students and encourage thoughtful responses.
  • Use assessments to support instruction and provide reliable feedback to students.
  • Modify lessons as needed in response to student questions and interests.
  • Reflect on lessons and suggest improvements.
  • Communicate regularly with families and engage them in the instructional program.
  • Participate in the professional community, school, and district events and projects, maintaining positive relationships.
  • Engage in professional development and share information with colleagues.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and school and district regulations.
  • Supervise students or assist with supervision in teaching and non-teaching situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
