Coordinator Of Prek And Elementary Math
Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 13,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has 1 early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9th 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.
The Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 has set an ambitious agenda for change, guided by the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels and academic gaps can, and will be eliminated with the support of teachers who deliver engaging, relevant, and academically rigorous instruction that excites students and instills a love of learning in them.
The Coordinator of PreK and Elementary Math will be the individual who will plan, organize, and implement a PreK-5 math program district-wide. The coordinator must provide strong instructional leadership and be able to successfully promote effective classroom teaching practices in the area of math instruction. This individual also must possess experience and knowledge in implementing balanced literacy within a school system.
In addition, he or she must have strong communication and collaboration skills in order to successfully lead the implementation of a quality math program in our district.
Essential duties and responsibilities include coordinating the review, development, and revision of the district PreK-Elementary math programs and related curriculum documents and materials, supporting the schools and teachers in the implementation of a common language of math pedagogy for all educators in the district, leading vertical and horizontal teams of teachers through the development of a scope and sequence, facilitating continuous improvement in classroom math instruction by providing instructional support to teachers in the areas of lesson design, aligning instruction with district curriculum, and developing effective classroom instruction and assessment, creating well-designed professional learning experiences that engage learners, linking current information to previous knowledge or experiences in the area of math, obtaining and using evaluative findings to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness related to math instruction, assisting in the preparation of the budget and administration of the budget for supplies, equipment, and facilities in related to the area of math, disseminating information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in math, providing demonstration lessons in curriculum and teaching techniques for classroom teachers, support staff, and administrators, providing leadership in implementing best practices and instructional strategies in the area of math, which meet the needs of diverse learners, coordinating curriculum/program implementation with teachers, administrators, central office personnel, and support staff, observing classrooms around the district to assure that curriculum and programs related to math are being implemented with fidelity and to identify what additional support is needed, researching and identifying best practices in the area of PreK an elementary math instruction, verifying vertical alignment of curriculum and identifying gaps/redundancies, if any, pursuing outside funding and grant opportunities, providing staff members with appropriate continuous professional development, collecting, maintaining, and reporting relevant data as required throughout the year, providing leadership and effective communication with all stakeholders, attending regular staff meetings and conducting regular staff meetings, and performing other duties as assigned by the Director of PreK and Elementary Education.
Qualifications include commitment to the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels, demonstrated ability to multitask effectively and prioritize strategically, openness to feedback and willingness to take personal responsibility, passion to embrace social and emotional standards and practices, holding or being eligible for the required Illinois State Professional Educators License with a General Administrative Endorsement, a minimum of three (3) years of successful elementary school teaching experience, preference will be given to those who demonstrate evidence of successful teaching and academic achievement using in the area of math, ability to successfully work in a collaborative environment, ability to mediate and resolve conflicts, and ability to interact with teachers, parents, outside agencies, and central services staff.
