Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Millwork Estimator role based in Waukegan, IL. The Millwork Estimator will review architectural drawings, specifications, and project documents to prepare accurate material take-offs and cost estimates for custom millwork and cabinetry. This role will develop detailed bids and proposals, including labor, materials, and installation costs, and will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and production teams to clarify scope and resolve technical questions.
The Millwork Estimator will work closely with vendors and suppliers to obtain pricing, evaluate options, and maintain up-to-date cost data. Day‑to‑day responsibilities also include tracking estimate assumptions, assisting with value engineering, supporting contract negotiations, and participating in handoff meetings to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to production.
- Strong millwork and construction knowledge, including experience reading architectural and shop drawings and familiarity with custom cabinetry and architectural woodwork.
- Demonstrated estimating skills, including material take-offs, labor calculations, and cost analysis for commercial or high-end residential projects.
- Proficiency with estimating and project management software, as well as standard office tools (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing, PDF markup).
- Solid math, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy in measurements and calculations.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with project managers, engineers, craftspeople, vendors, and clients.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines, prioritize tasks, and maintain organized documentation in a fast‑paced environment.
- Prior experience in millwork fabrication, woodworking, construction management, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- High school diploma required; technical training or an associate/bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related discipline is a plus.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in estimating processes and project delivery.
