Job Description

We are seeking a talented Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Tax Principal with Private Equity experience and exceptional technical and relationship development skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advising and influencing substantial Private Equity client relationships to achieve functional objectives and strengthen relationships.
  • Providing value‑added services critical to obtaining and serving Private Equity clients.
  • Addressing complex M&A tax matters through innovative and established approaches.
  • Driving the delivery of strategies with a strong focus on managing risk and safety.
  • Delivering exceptional tax consulting services to clients involved in complex mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other restructuring transactions.
  • Networking and building strong internal and external relationships to acquire new Private Equity clients, projects, and revenue.
  • Operating within Baker Tilly’s matrixed structure to develop and execute growth strategies in collaboration with regional and national leaders.
  • Building legacy and succession plans through the development of the team.
  • Representing Baker Tilly in the marketplace through speaking engagements, article authorship, and other brand‑enhancing activities.
Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates possess:

  • Deep technical expertise in complex corporate and flow‑through transaction tax structuring.
  • A proven track record of leading high‑stakes transactions with strategic tax insights that create significant value for Private Equity clients.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills and the ability to collaborate seamlessly with deal teams, investment bankers, legal advisors, and portfolio company management.
  • Outstanding business development acumen, identifying emerging opportunities and articulating tailored tax solutions to senior stakeholders.
  • Leadership qualities, including mentoring, coaching, and fostering a high‑performance, collaborative culture.
Qualifications
  • Partner or principal at current firm.
  • At least fifteen years of experience working with Private Equity clients on tax aspects of complex domestic and cross‑border business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and restructurings involving debt and equity.
  • Experience as an immediate leader capable of elevating the technical base of the firm.
  • Proven entrepreneur with a track‑record of business growth.
  • Strong client service orientation, continuous learning, and ethical conduct.
  • CPA or bar licensed attorney required; master’s or LLM in taxation desired but not required.
  • Ability to travel nationally as client and firm needs require.
