Position: Portfolio Manager, NextGear Capital (Chicago Central Market)

Job Summary

The Portfolio Manager manages and grows a portfolio of dealer clients across Chicago Central territory and Atlanta Northwest area with lines of credit ranging from $50,000 to $2.5M. The role builds and maintains client relationships, optimizes portfolio use, manages pre‑default risk, and supports post‑default collections.

Responsibilities
  • Optimize each client’s use of the line of credit within the assigned portfolio by acting as a floor‑plan subject‑matter expert.
  • Achieve performance targets set by the company by engaging with clients in person or virtually and collaborating with internal partners to drive revenue and maximize profitability through prudent account management, controlled growth, and risk mitigation.
  • Educate clients on performance behaviors, self‑service options, and best practices and coach them to ensure compliance with company policies and expectations.
  • Collect and analyze client financial information and internal reports to assess dealer performance and address opportunities or risks.
  • Utilize company data tools to identify growth opportunities and determine clients experiencing financial distress.
  • Collaborate with Risk and Recovery to mitigate pre‑default risk and conduct post‑default collection efforts, minimizing loss and maximizing recovery.
  • Perform physical inspection of inventory, ensuring audit accuracy and repossession as necessary.
  • Inspect inventory to ensure quality control, audit self‑reconciliation, and adherence to buying behaviors.
  • Act as a fiduciary for the company by identifying and reporting material non‑compliance or fraud to protect the company.
  • Operate with the highest level of integrity and strive to achieve the best outcomes for clients and the company.
  • Document all prudent conversations, activities and client interactions in Salesforce as required by company KPIs.
  • Complete all Salesforce campaigns as required by the company.
  • Onboard new clients to ensure a positive and successful client experience.
  • Cultivate cross‐functional relationships and opportunities within Cox Automotive.
  • Participate and support other projects and initiatives as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the automotive industry (various sectors).
  • Knowledge of the finance industry (various sectors).
  • Proficiency in reading and analyzing financial documents such as profit and loss, balance sheets, tax returns, and bank statements.
  • Strong financial acumen with working knowledge of key financial tools and terminology.
  • Ability to identify risk indicators through data tools.
  • Ability to communicate proactive performance plans continuously at an individual and client level.
  • Strong presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with clients and collaborate with internal team members and external partners at various levels.
  • Strong time‑management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a remote environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of safety awareness and take necessary precautions.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Salesforce.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) with 4+ years of related experience in finance, client‑facing roles, customer service, B2B, account management, or collections.
  • Combination of an MS degree and 2+ years’ experience, or 8 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Automotive and/or floorplan industry background preferred.
  • Financial knowledge and acumen preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to visit clients at least 60% of the time with occasional overnight travel.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
