Job PurposeThe Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all inbound & outbound material activities to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant receipt of raw materials, packaging, and supplies. This role leads the receiving team, enforces safety and food safety standards, maintains inventory accuracy, and partners closely with Purchasing, Quality, Production, and Warehouse teams to support uninterrupted operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Receiving Operations- Oversee daily receiving operations, including scheduling inbound deliveries and unloading activities,
including treatments. - Ensure accurate receipt of raw materials, packaging, and supplies against purchase orders and bills of lading
- Verify counts, lot codes, expiration dates, and condition of materials upon receipt
- Ensure materials are properly labeled, staged, and transferred to appropriate storage locations
- Ensure timely and accurate transaction processing in the inventory management system (ERP/WMS)
- Investigate and resolve receiving discrepancies, shortages, damages, or mis-shipments
- Support cycle counts and audits by maintaining accurate inbound inventory records
- Partner with Inventory Control to prevent inventory variances tied to receiving errors
- Lead, coach, and develop receiving associates to meet safety, quality, and productivity standards
- Assign daily work, set priorities, and ensure adequate coverage across shifts
- Train team members on SOPs, food safety, GMPs, and material handling practices
- Address performance issues promptly and partner with HR on corrective action when needed
- Enforce OSHA, GMP, food safety, and company safety policies within receiving operations
- Ensure proper handling and storage of food-grade and allergen-sensitive materials
- Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready receiving area
- Support internal and external audits related to receiving and warehouse operations
- Communicate delivery issues or shortages that may impact production schedules
- Partner with Quality on holds, inspections, non-conforming materials, and release processes
- Coordinate with Purchasing and suppliers to resolve delivery and documentation issues
- Support Production and Warehouse teams to ensure materials are available when needed
- Identify opportunities to improve receiving flow, dock utilization, and labor efficiency
- Support process improvements related to material flow, accuracy, and safety
- Participate in operational meetings and contribute to problem-solving efforts
- High school diploma or GED
- 3+ years of warehouse or receiving experience in a manufacturing or food environment
- 1+ year of supervisory or lead experience
- Working knowledge of inventory systems (ERP or WMS)
- Strong understanding of safety, GMPs, and material handling best practices
- Experience in food manufacturing or regulated environments
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
- Experience supporting audits and inventory controls
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to lead and hold teams accountable
- Clear communication across departments and shifts
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on root cause
- Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Data-driven approach to accuracy and efficiency
- Intermediate Microsoft Office or other software applications
- Ability to lift up to 55 pounds (anything over 55 lbs, team lift)
