Process Technician
The Process Technician supports second-shift injection molding operations by setting up and optimizing processes, operating and monitoring molding and robotic equipment, and ensuring that all plastic components meet defined specifications and quality standards. This role focuses on executing the production schedule safely and efficiently while driving improvements in machine utilization, scrap reduction, and overall equipment effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate injection molding processes, including configuring process parameters and verifying that equipment is prepared to meet production requirements.
- Oversee robotic operations associated with the molding process to ensure proper part handling and consistent production flow.
- Monitor tool and mold effectiveness, making adjustments as needed to maintain part quality and process stability.
- Prepare and produce injection-molded components according to defined process parameters and customer specifications.
- Perform daily inspections and complete required checklists on injection molding machinery and robotic systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Troubleshoot process and equipment issues when conditions deviate from standard specifications, and implement corrective actions to restore optimal performance.
- Achieve departmental goals by minimizing scrap, improving machine utilization, and contributing to higher overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Transfer accurate and detailed information to the following shift regarding quality issues, process changes, tooling concerns, and other relevant production updates.
- Ensure all parts are produced to the appropriate quality levels by performing regular quality checks and documenting results.
- Carry out daily duties with accuracy and in a timely manner, including press startups, quality checks, and entering data into IQMS Real Time or similar systems.
- Accurately and completely prepare all required daily production-related documents and records in a timely manner.
- Observe all safety rules and policies at all times, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify and report all recognized safety hazards to help maintain a safe working environment.
- Contribute continuous improvement and cost-saving ideas related to injection molding processes and manufacturing assemblies.
- Collaborate with engineering to ensure processes are robust and tooling performance is monitored and optimized.
- Support and train employees in scientific molding techniques to promote consistent, data-driven process control.
- Work overtime as required by management to support production needs and molding operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned at management's discretion to support overall manufacturing objectives.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Knowledge and experience in plastics processing and related equipment.
- Hands-on experience with injection molding machines and plastic injection molding processes.
- Ability to troubleshoot injection molding processes, tooling, and equipment issues.
- Strong mechanical aptitude to understand and adjust molding and robotic systems.
- Strong mathematical skills to interpret process data, measurements, and production metrics.
- Advanced scientific injection molding skills, including the ability to apply scientific molding principles to optimize processes.
- Ability to make independent judgments and decisions in the absence of the Process Manager.
- Good written and oral communication skills to document processes, communicate shift information, and collaborate with team members.
- Computer literacy, including the ability to enter and manage data in systems such as IQMS Real Time or similar production software.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as effectively within a team.
- Commitment to following safety rules and consistently wearing required PPE.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Scientific molding knowledge is preferred for deeper process optimization and training support.
- Demonstrated leadership skills to guide and support other team members during shift operations.
- Experience working in a plastic injection mold facility or similar manufacturing environment.
- Flexibility to work overtime and adjust schedules as needed to support molding operations.
