PAY RANGE: $24,119 - $29,159

Summary
The Patient Care Technician assists the professional nurse in providing patient care needs according to the plan of care. The role takes responsibility and accountability for learning and adhering to hospital and nursing policies and procedures, caring for the environment, supplies, and equipment within the scope of training. Performs other duties as assigned under the direction of a Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN).
Duties
- Interfaces daily with patients, nurses, Nurse Coordinator, Divisional Nursing Director, Support Staff, and Physicians.
- Prepares patient rooms and beds for admissions, returning surgical patients, transfers, or emergencies.
- Provides patient care and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as eating, bathing, changing bed linens, dressing, mobility, and continence to assure patient comfort.
- Obtains intakes & outputs and documents in the EMR.
- Empties Foley catheter at a minimum of every eight hours or hourly as directed by RN; documents in the EMR.
- Empties patient drains as directed by RN; documents in the EMR.
- Measures and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, weight, and height accurately.
- Measures and records intake and output accurately.
- Assists with pre- and post-operative care, including positioning, lifting, turning, ambulating, and using special equipment.
- Assists and accompanies patients in admission, transfer, and discharge processes while ensuring comfort.
- Participates in nursing reports by contributing to status reports of patients.
- Performs treatment procedures such as enemas, surgical skin preparations, and application of ice packs and heat.
- Prepares patients for meals, assists in feeding if necessary, and distributes water and other nourishment.
- Performs general care activities for patients in isolation.
- Provides close observation care.
- Provides post-mortem care.
- Makes rounds, anticipates patient needs, and responds to patient call lights promptly.
- Collects specimens, labels properly, and transports to proper area in a timely manner.
- Reports pertinent information to nursing personnel, including any observed changes in condition or behavior.
- Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment by keeping order in patient rooms, reporting equipment that is out of order, cleaning assigned equipment, and distributing linen and supplies.
- Documents patient care information clearly, legibly, and concisely.
- Utilizes AIDET, SBAR, and hourly rounds during hand-offs and shift changes.
- Adapts to changes in workload or patient assignments.
- Recognizes and responds to priorities in patient care.
- Performs assigned duties independently and cooperates willingly.
- Assists in exceeding patient satisfaction.
- Functions calmly and precisely in emergency and crisis situations.
- Evacuates patients in an emergency according to fire and evacuation policy.
- Uses safety devices and standard precautions to prevent infection and disease spread.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED (transcripts required at interview).
- Valid and current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (proof required at interview).
- Valid and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (proof required at interview).
- Basic computer skills.
- One year of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
- Bilingual proficiency.
Preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans who have served at least 6 months of continuous service. Veterans must meet minimum qualifications, identify self as a Veteran on the application, and submit a DD 214, DD 215, or NGB 22 indicating honorable discharge. If multiple documents exist, submit the most recent. Veterans can alternatively provide a valid State or Driver’s License that identifies them as a Veteran.
Veterans must provide original discharge papers or interview. Failure to provide required documents results in ineligibility for Veteran preference.
- Degrees awarded outside the U.S. (except U.S. territories and Canada) must be credentialed by an approved U.S. credential evaluation service (NACES or AICE); original documents required at interview.
