, as a Staff Nurse in our DCAM Pre‑Op/PACU department. The position is 100% onsite, and you will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. As a Staff Nurse, you will be responsible for providing goal‑directed nursing care adapted to the needs of patients, families, and communities during health and illness. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care, and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.

Job Functions
  • Utilize assessment skills to determine patient needs and provide comprehensive patient/family care across the neonate to geriatric population.
  • Identify learning needs of patients and families, develop teaching methods to enhance learning, and incorporate discharge planning into daily practice.
  • Implement nursing actions based on scheduled surgery, patient assessment, and developmental needs, and incorporate them into a written plan of care.
  • Evaluate care given and adjust nursing interventions to meet changing patient needs, documenting appropriately in patient care records.
  • Complete unit‑based and hospital competencies as designated.
  • Perform nursing treatments and procedures in accordance with hospital policy and clinical specialty standards.
  • Maintain current CPR certification and all required clinical certifications.
  • Prepare and administer medications/treatments according to physician orders, ensuring patient safety.
  • Collaborate with other health team members to provide holistic healthcare.
  • Communicate changes to all team members as appropriate.
  • Document all aspects of patient care from admission to discharge per hospital policies.
  • Use time, supplies, and personnel efficiently to provide cost‑effective care.
  • Actively participate in unit staff meetings.
  • Assist in the development and attainment of unit goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to a positive staff morale climate that encourages motivation and commitment.
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by the Clinical Director or designee.
  • Supervise, direct, and teach other employees, impacting patient care at various levels.
  • Participate in unit activities to promote staff retention.
  • Support and cooperate with changes at the unit level, demonstrating reliability and accountability.
  • Integrate professional standards into practice using written nursing care plans.
  • Participate in quality improvement data analysis and implement changes as determined.
  • Participate in the preceptor program, either as a preceptor or by assisting others.
  • Attend weekly scheduled in‑service sessions.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or higher.
  • Current Illinois RN license.
  • Active BLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of Medical‑ICU experience.
  • ACLS certification.

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected for this position. Pay ranges are based on a full‑time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and are reviewed annually. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and on organizational considerations such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
