Staff Nurse, Transplant Nights

Job Description

Be a part of a world‑class academic healthcare system, the University of Chicago Medicine, as a Staff Nurse in the 3W Transplant Department at our Hyde Park campus. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity and requires the nurse to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

In the Transplant Unit, we provide exemplary teamwork, compassionate and detail‑oriented clinical skills including tele‑monitoring, tracheostomy, and chest tube care. You will care for solid organ transplant patients and multispecialty patients, working with physicians who are constantly pushing the bounds of possibility forward through groundbreaking research and personalized patient care.

A staff nurse (RN) manages patient‑centered care that is outcome directed. The nurse assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the care provided, assuming primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally performed and that performed by those directly under her/his supervision.

• Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs
• Develops a plan of care for patients whose needs do not require the expertise of a Case Manager, and collaborates with the Case Manager when necessary
• Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by the Care Center Director or Patient Care Manager
• Provides support to peers by assisting as needed, serving as a resource, and working as a team member
• Assists Care Center in the development and attainment of goals and objectives
• Uses clinical pathways and/or plans of care incorporating standards of practice
• Assesses own need for professional growth and development, seeking appropriate resources to meet those needs
• Attends continuing education programs and participates in program evaluation

• Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with the following conditions: ADN nurses must enroll in a BSN program within six to nine months of hire and progress toward completing the BSN within 30 months; they receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program
• Current Illinois RN license
• Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
