Position: CLINICAL NURSE I - RECOVERY ROOM NURSING

Shift: 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Pay Range: $38,203 – $52,061 per year; salary commensurate with experience.

Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse I is an entry‑level professional nursing position. Under close supervision, the nurse utilizes the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to provide safe, therapeutic patient care, functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team, and supports the development of policies and standards of care.

Typical Duties Assessment
  • Perform and document a physical/psycho‑social assessment that accurately portrays patient problems and/or complications.
  • Assess and document needs for patient and family education.
  • Base nursing diagnoses on available assessment data.
  • Observe and document the patient's emotional response.
Plan
  • Develop a nursing plan of care based on medical and nursing diagnoses and the individual's needs.
  • Collaborate with peers, supervisors, and other health‑team members to develop the plan of care.
  • Evaluate patient response to interventions and modify the plan as needed.
  • Implement ongoing discharge plans in collaboration with other health‑care providers.
Implementation of Plan
  • Implement individualized nursing care within a predetermined time after admission.
  • Demonstrate safe use of equipment and aseptic techniques during procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe environment across the unit.
  • Administer medications and therapeutic measures as prescribed, following safe medical practice and established policies.
  • Identify, manage, and document changes in patient status and communicate findings appropriately.
Evaluation of Plan
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions in achieving goals.
  • Modify the plan of care as needed based on patient condition changes.
  • Apply age‑related knowledge: understand growth and development, normal aging patterns, and adjust care accordingly for pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric populations.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Provide educational support for patients and families regarding disease entities, medications, and treatments.
  • Maintain professionalism: observe dress code, wear identification badge, notify management of absence or tardiness, and be punctual for patient reports.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of unit operational forms and handle telephone requests with courtesy and confidentiality.
  • Manage time effectively to balance patient care, in‑service meetings, and professional development.
  • Respect patient and staff rights, property, and privacy.
Leadership and Communication
  • Act as a team leader when assigned; supervise and instruct Patient Care Attendants.
  • Assist non‑professional staff in providing care and completing complex assignments.
  • Serve as a role model and delegate patient‑care assignments appropriately.
  • Take charge in the absence of the charge nurse or nurse manager.
  • Maintain nursing quality assurance standards.
  • Provide staff counseling on patient care, performance, and problem solving.
  • Direct unit activities during emergencies.
  • Write clear, concise, and legible patient‑care reports using appropriate forms.
  • Notify supervisors and charge nurse of pertinent observations and abnormal results.
  • Communicate regularly with physicians, charge nurses, supervisors, and other health‑care professionals.
  • Utilize effective verbal, non‑verbal, and written communication skills.
Professional Growth
  • Organize and achieve quality performance in new routines, procedures, and skills.
  • Maintain clinical competence and certifications.
  • Initiate and direct life support measures; perform effectively in Code Blue procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • One (1) year of Medical Surgical, Emergency Room, or Critical Care experience in an acute‑care setting within the last three (3) years.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of specific medical equipment (e.g., IV pumps, cardiac monitors, hospital beds, computers).
  • Emergency response skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical, problem‑solving, and mathematical skills, including medication dosing.
  • Attention to detail, ability to work to deadlines, flexibility, and adaptability.
Physical and Environmental Demands

Requires compliance with all hospital and department safety requirements, including personal protective equipment, hand hygiene, and work‑area safety protocols.
