Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) TechnicianPosition Summary
At Nielsen‑Massey Vanillas, you will support our commitment to premium quality and food safety by operating on the production floor and in the laboratory during the first shift. Your duties include monitoring, verifying, and documenting day‑to‑day food safety practices to ensure every product meets safety regulations, specifications, and company standards.
Location & CompensationWaukegan, Illinois; full‑time on site.
Hourly Rate: $22‑$25 (based on education, skills, experience and other job‑related factors).
Key Responsibilities- Line clearance and inspections of pre‑operational and post‑operational facilities to maintain sanitary conditions.
- Basic laboratory testing of raw materials, in‑process products, and finished goods.
- GMP audits and monitoring of critical control points to ensure HACCP compliance.
- Label checks, package integrity inspections, and weight/volume verifications.
- Sanitation checks and environmental monitoring through routine swabbing.
- Record checks of production logs, instrument calibrations, and quality paperwork.
- Identify and place out‑of‑spec materials on QA hold; assist with root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with Regulatory, Sustainability, Procurement, R&D, Operations, and Marketing to implement supplier requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma required; bachelor's in Food Science or similar preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of QA/QC experience in food or beverage manufacturing (or 1‑2 years with a degree).
- Proficiency with GMP, HACCP principles and general food safety regulations.
- Strict attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to stand, walk on the manufacturing floor for long periods, and lift up to 30 lbs.
- Preferred certifications: HACCP and/or PCQI.
- Demonstrated collaboration and cross‑functional influence in a global environment.
- Experience performing basic lab testing and using standard lab equipment.
- Spanish language skills.
