We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of advanced scanning/transmission electron microscopy (S/TEM) methods for cutting‑edge scientific research in areas such as quantum materials and low‑dimensional energy systems. This position emphasizes automation, high‑throughput data acquisition, and real‑time data processing, offering a unique opportunity to advance S/TEM capabilities, publish impactful research, and collaborate with a diverse group of scientists both within and beyond CNM.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and apply advanced S/TEM techniques, focusing on atomic‑resolution imaging and spectroscopy (EELS/EDS)
- Implement automation and high‑throughput workflows for data acquisition and analysis
- Contribute to on‑the‑fly data processing and integration with computational tools
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in nanofabrication, instrumentation, modeling, and data science
- Recent or soon‑to‑be‑completed PhD (within the last 0‑5 years) in field(s) of materials science, physics, computational science, or a related field
- Strong background in scanning/transmission electron microscopy (S/TEM), particularly atomic‑resolution imaging and spectroscopy techniques (EELS/EDS)
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or similar, with experience in data‑driven workflows and computer vision
- Demonstrated track record of peer‑reviewed publications
- Highly collaborative, innovative, and capable of working independently in a multidisciplinary research environment
- Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
- Familiarity with multi‑modal AI/ML model development
- Experience with 2D materials, defect characterization, or in situ/operando microscope
