Maintenance II

The Maintenance II general function will be to perform moderately complex work related to planning details of a maintenance job and completing the job according to prescribed policies and procedures. The position is under moderate supervision.

Essential Functions
  • Depending on the assignment, the incumbent may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties, and perform related duties as assigned:
  • Provide maintenance in such areas as skilled and semiskilled electrical, plumbing, painting, roof repair, carpentry, water main repair and installation.
  • Electrical including changing of ballast and lamps.
  • Perform maintenance tasks involving the repair of buildings and equipment.
  • May supervise and provide less skilled maintenance mechanics with proper training in procedures and methods of maintenance of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, roof repair, mechanical equipment, etc.
  • Snow removal with machines and vehicles.
  • Office furniture installation and remodel.
  • Must have approved LEADS access to Sheriff's Office and Courts secured areas at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, welding/fabricating, reading blueprints, electrical, fire systems, etc.
  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance and protocols of facilities and equipment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, building and grounds maintenance equipment and repair.
  • Knowledge of various federal, state and county codes and regulations involving construction, installation, fire, safety and sanitation.
  • Considerable skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to perform maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Skill in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Skill in time management and attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate poser driven and motorized equipment.
  • Ability to provide information, guidance, or assistance to peers.
  • Ability to determine or interpret work procedures, maintain relationships and promote efficiency.
  • Ability to successfully use County-specific technology and general office software.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, logically, and persuasively both verbally and in writing; ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive reports, correspondence and documents.
  • Ability to use tools, or equipment requiring moderate instruction and experience such as computers, software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, or custom applications, and office machines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with organization managers, peers and staff, the public and others encountered in the course of work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent supplemented by trade school courses required;
  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance of facilities or comparable general construction field;
  • Proficiency in one of the building or mechanical trades and working knowledge of the others;
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record;
  • Or any combination of education and experience that provides the candidates possesses the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties prescribed to the position (above).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Required to undergo criminal background screening including LEADS approval from Sheriff's Office.
