Burris Equipment, a part of Alta Equipment Company, is hiring a full‑time Shop Service Technician for our Waukegan, IL branch. This union position is part of Local 701 and has a base pay range of $25.65–$42.75 based on experience, not including benefits or potential bonuses.

A journeyman technician is expected to perform all mechanical work and welding on equipment under 110 hp—including loader backhoes, skid steers, mini excavators, small loaders, landscape equipment, trailers, rollers, and air compressors—in a safe, efficient, and professional manner at the company shop or at a customer’s site.

Responsibilities
  • Perform service tasks as assigned by the service manager or shop superintendent.
  • Stay current with changes in models of equipment sold and serviced by the distributor.
  • Report each service call or repair job at the end of each shift, providing customer name, make and model, serial number, hours worked, travel time, details of work performed, problems encountered, time required, parts, equipment and supplies used.
  • Report warranty situations in complete detail.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly shop area.
  • Notify the service manager/service writer of any additional work required on a unit.
  • Notify the service manager/branch manager if shop equipment or vehicle is not serviceable or poses a safety hazard.
  • Return special tools to their proper location at the end of each shift in a clean, ready‑to‑use condition.
  • Review parts and service bulletins related to the equipment the technician is responsible for repairing.
  • Conduct oneself in a manner that reflects positively on the company and service department when in the presence of customers.
  • Take advantage of training opportunities to upgrade technical competence.
  • Perform other duties as prescribed by the service manager.
  • Work safely at all times.
Qualifications
  • Be able to lift 90 lb, 75 % of the time, to load and unload repair equipment.
  • Have knowledge of internal engine workings and mechanical equipment relevant to the equipment being serviced.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service, problem‑solving, and safety skills.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and be able to drive a pickup truck and trailer.
  • Supply tools required to work on assigned equipment.
