Job Summary
Mobile Diesel Technician Level II – responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, and diagnostic work on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using diagnostic instruments.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment; use handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to diagnose and ensure proper functioning.
- Manage parts inventory; conduct periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain company‑issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, and lifts and jacks.
- Document work on the company’s iOS device and TRAIT application; upload pictures and complete DOT forms and repair orders.
- Work independently, manage daily schedule, prioritize tasks, and meet standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors; communicate with management by email or phone for approvals.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience in a related field;or a higher degree/certification beyond a high‑school level and at least 5 years of experience.
- Possess a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- Claim or obtain an ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Successfully complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical.
- Maintain a current valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining; otherwise, a DOT physical is required.
- Be at least 21 years old and possess a valid driver’s license; maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Must hold a valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Adhere to DOT FMCSA regulations.
- Required:
ASE T8 (PMI) – must be obtained within 18 months of employment. - Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), ASE T4 (Brakes), ASE T5 (Suspension), ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), ASE T7 (HVAC), ASE 608/609 (Air‑conditioning).
- Understand implications of new information for problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Physical capability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods; perform moderately heavy labor and repetitive tasks.
- Effective two‑way communication with individuals and groups; concise and organized information delivery.
- Determine appropriate tools and equipment; accurately judge proximity and distance.
- Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternatives, conclusions, and approaches to problems.
