SUMMARYThis position will be responsible for performing a variety of accounting duties in accordance with procedures established by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and Board of Education Policies. This role involves processing financial transactions, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. This position will be based in the Business Office but will also provide on-site accounting support to school sites.
Some travel between schools will be required.
The duties and responsibilities described below are considered the essential functions of the position. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.
- Prepare bank deposits at three district high schools
- Prepare requisitions for secondary schools
- Process invoices and payments; manage accounts receivable, including tracking outstanding balances
- Track and collect payment for NSF checks
- Prepare and submit journal entries when necessary
- Assist in collecting school fees and prepare financial statements
- Prepare and process bank deposits for various school groups using financial software
- Enroll and maintain vendor information to process invoices in Skyward
- Prepare and submit invoice payments
- Ensure proper usage of account numbers related to various activities and athletic teams
- Reconcile P-Card transactions for various activities and athletic teams
- Prepare district reimbursement for state expenditures
- Work collaboratively with the Business Office and school staff
- Communicate with stakeholders to include staff, vendors and community via phone, electronically or mail
- Create reports for stakeholders as requested
- Complete internal audit reviews
- Assist in preparing for annual financial audit
- Assist in the development of the District annual budget
- Complete state reporting and bank reconciliations, as needed
- Maintain knowledge of the office accounting practices performed by district staff and recommend changes as appropriate
- Maintain accurate and auditable records

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEAssociate’s Degree in Accounting or related field preferred. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping. Experience using Skyward and/or similar financial software preferred. Previous bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in an educational setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with schools and business office staff. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Evidence of outstanding organizational abilities; ability to handle multiple responsibilities. Ability to work as a successful team member with co-workers. Proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office applications; ability to effectively learn and work with school-centered software (relational database) applications. Should have a history of maintaining confidentiality, stability, neatness, punctuality, loyalty, ethical consciousness, organization skills, and flexibility.
LANGUAGESKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, federal, state, and/or DPI regulations, handbooks, computer and other manuals, budget reports and statistical data. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to interpret and communicate reports, procedures, and computer applications to faculty, staff, and students. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
