A growing, highly regarded manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced purchasing leader to drive and elevate its procurement function. This is an opportunity to take ownership of company-wide purchasing activities, centralize buying processes, and build a strategic sourcing foundation that supports continued growth.
This role will lead overall procurement strategy and execution, implementing scalable processes that optimize cost, protect quality, and strengthen supplier partnerships. The position reports directly to the General Manager and works cross-functionally with sales, planning, operations, and accounting. The ideal candidate enjoys balancing hands‑on purchasing responsibilities with long‑term strategic initiatives and team development.
Key Responsibilities- Direct all sourcing and procurement activities in support of contract manufacturing operations, including machining, stamping, and fabrication.
- Source raw materials such as sheet, bar, and coil stock, as well as purchased components, tooling, and vendor‑managed inventory programs.
- Centralize and formalize purchasing processes to drive efficiency, transparency, and cost discipline.
- Assess, select, and develop supplier partnerships to ensure quality performance, accountability, and ongoing cost optimization.
- Lead contract negotiations and commercial agreements with strategic suppliers.
- Track steel and broader metals market trends; perform demand and pricing analysis to support sales forecasting and operations planning.
- Oversee inventory integrity by monitoring and improving purchasing‑related transactions and reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of purchasing records, pricing data, and payment documentation.
- Resolve pricing, receiving, and invoice discrepancies in coordination with operations and accounting teams.
- Provide purchasing support across the organization as business needs evolve.
- Recruit, mentor, and scale a high‑performing procurement team over time.
- 5+ years of progressive metals procurement experience within a contract manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated success improving or centralizing purchasing functions and implementing process best practices.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to build durable supplier relationships.
- Highly detail‑oriented with strong ownership, accountability, and follow‑through.
- Analytical and data‑driven, with strengths in forecasting, cost modeling, and process improvement.
- Experience working within ERP systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or a related discipline preferred.
- Experience supporting or participating in an ERP implementation;
Epicor experience strongly preferred. - APICS certification (CSCP, CPIM, or similar credentials).
