Senior Construction Materials Testing Technician - Waukesha, WI

Professional Service Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) is a leading US based provider of construction assurance, testing and inspection in civil and commercial construction. Our broad service offering includes construction materials testing, geotechnical services, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing.
What you’ll do- Performs a variety of testing, project-specific observations and site assessment duties under direct supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures.
- Performs observations and testing of construction materials such as soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel placement, fireproofing and asphalt.
- Attends project meetings alone without supervision.
- Trains other Technicians.
- Operates testing equipment and conducts testing (example: soil, concrete or other) and provides assessment of data through reporting.
- Performs field and laboratory testing of soil samples and concrete specimens.
- Documents daily activities and testing results and prepares field reports.
- Works utilizing drawings, specifications and diagrams.
- Works outdoors on a year-round basis on various construction sites.
- Makes detailed observations and provides limited interpretation of results.
- Maintains detailed documentation and data from test results.
- Operates calculators to calculate mathematical test results.
- Adheres to safety practices and policies to ensure safety of self and others.
- Cleans and maintains equipment and performs site cleanup.
- Interfaces with contractors and clients.
- Ability to lift, move, push and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.
- Ability to kneel and squat occasionally.
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold).
- Ability to climb occasionally.
- High School education or equivalent; preferred with 5+ years of related experience or Bachelor’s degree in Science from an accredited engineering/ABET school and 0-2 years of experience.
- Experience performing field and/or laboratory construction materials testing.
- Basic math, calculator and computer skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
- Must be able to read and understand work plans.
- Must be able to work off shifts and overtime.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.
- ACI/ICC/WisDOT certifications are preferred.
