Lead Teacher-Extended Care Program
- Part-Time Non-exempt, hourly position-Mother of Good Counsel
The Lead Teacher is responsible for creating and delivering a safe, engaging, and structured after-school environment for students. This includes planning and leading enrichment activities, supporting academic growth, managing classroom behavior, and supervising support staff.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and lead daily activities including academic support (e.g., homework help), enrichment lessons, and recreational play.
- Develop a positive classroom culture that supports learning, respect, and inclusion.
- Engage with students in indoor and outdoor activities, helping facilitate learning through play and creativity.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Supervise and mentor classroom assistants or volunteers, ensuring they are effectively engaged.
- Monitor and guide student behavior using proactive and developmentally appropriate strategies.
- Communicate regularly with parents, school staff, and program leadership regarding student progress and any concerns.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, incident reports, and other required documentation.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all students at all times, including during transitions, meals/snacks, and outdoor play.
- Participate in regular team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Assist with program setup, cleanup, and material organization.
- Maintain good relations and communication with parents.
- Monitor student behavior and enforce program rules and expectations consistently.
- Document any problems with discipline and inform the childcare teacher and/or director
- Prepare and clean up materials, snacks, and classroom spaces as needed.
- Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
- Any and all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, Child Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Level 10 (or Level
8) on the Wisconsin Registry depending on credentials and coursework - Minimum of 1–2 years' experience working with children in educational or youth development settings.
- Strong leadership and classroom management skills.
- Ability to plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Completion of Mandatory Reporter, Child Maltreatment, and Abusive Head Trauma Trainings
- Background check and fingerprinting clearances required.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to be flexible, patient, and responsive to the needs of students.
- Familiarity with behavior management techniques.
- Passion for youth development and educational equity.
