Summary

Under the direction of the Asphalt Plant Manager, the Asphalt Plant Project Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day operations associated with asphalt plant supervision and asphalt production, and will lead and coordinate projects related to the production of asphalt targeting increased operational efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and act as a safety role model by promoting and enforcing safe work habits; work with safety manager, aggregate managers and field personnel to enforce MSHA laws and regulations and promote safety within the organization.
  • Analyze project technical specifications, create asphalt mix designs and develop operational BMPs to ensure that materials and processes meet project requirements.
  • Coordinate material testing with technical services and plant personnel during production; consistently monitor test results to ensure materials meet specifications and manage risks to avoid penalties and project delays.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to maintain high quality standards for customers.
  • Coordinate production demands, plant maintenance schedules, portable aggregate crush/wash needs and all necessary personnel, equipment, and materials to ensure operations run safely and efficiently.
  • Oversee all day-to-day asphalt production throughout the construction season; direct and support plant personnel on the development and implementation of the operations plans.
  • Review and process invoices related to plant operations, accurately assign costs and conduct monthly cost reviews to keep expenses within budget.
  • Participate in recruiting efforts by identifying staffing needs, selecting candidates and facilitating onboarding for new team members.
  • Develop and implement training programs for new hires.
  • Collaborate with land resources department to secure necessary permits for asphalt plant operation.
  • Coordinate completion of plant site work including site prep, inventory management and maintenance.
  • Oversee subcontractors performing work at asphalt plant facilities.
  • Lead projects to increase operational efficiency, including pursuing Energy Star certification at production facilities.
  • Complete any other projects assigned related to asphalt plant operations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Mining engineering or a related field.
  • Safety oriented, with detailed knowledge of OSHA/MSHA regulations, compliance and inspection processes.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, prioritizing and managing multiple tasks and responsibilities concurrently.
Preferred Skills
  • Prior experience in asphalt or mining industry.
  • Experience with HCSS Heavy Job and Heavy Bid software.
  • AutoCAD or similar design software experience.
  • Experience in planning, scheduling and supervising production shifts.
  • Experience managing subcontractors.
