Procurement Engineering Manager

The Procurement Engineering Manager is responsible for driving the successful sourcing strategy and supplier execution for MR New Product Introduction (NPI) programs from concept through launch. This role plays a critical part in supporting high-visibility "lighthouse" MR NPI programs (including Rhea and Magnus), requiring strong technical and sourcing leadership across early design, supplier selection, and production readiness. The NPI Sourcing professional will develop a competitive and resilient supply base that enables GE Health Care to deliver new products on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all procurement engineering activities for MR New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from early concept through product launch.
  • Own end-to-end sourcing execution for assigned NPI programs, ensuring supplier readiness across all phases of development and commercialization.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive sourcing strategies for MR NPI components, leveraging market intelligence and supplier capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D, Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams during early design phases to influence sourcing decisions and product manufacturability.
  • Lead hands-on supplier identification, technical evaluation, and qualification activities, including supplier capability assessments, process reviews, and on-site visits as needed.
  • Conduct thorough technical and quality evaluations of suppliers to ensure alignment with GE Health Care standards for complex medical devices.
  • Drive cost optimization initiatives across the NPI lifecycle, including design for manufacturability (DFM), design for sourcing (DFS), and should-costing.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms with suppliers to achieve optimal total cost and secure supply continuity.
  • Manage supplier performance, relationships, and risk throughout the NPI process, ensuring adherence to project timelines, quality expectations, and budget.
  • Identify potential supply chain risks early and develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans to support successful product launches.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to resolve technical, supply chain, and execution challenges during NPI development.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and supplier landscapes within MR and related domains.
  • Operate as a senior individual contributor, influencing cross-functional teams and supplier decisions without direct reports.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university. A strong engineering foundation is required for success in this role and will not be developed on the job.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management within a highly regulated industry (medical device strongly preferred).
  • Proven experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) programs, with hands-on involvement from concept through launch.
  • Strong technical understanding of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and quality systems for complex devices or equipment.
  • Demonstrated success in supplier selection, qualification, negotiation, and ongoing relationship management.
  • Experience driving cost optimization through DFM, DFS, and/or should-costing methodologies.
  • Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills in fast-paced, matrixed environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence across engineering, quality, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with in medical devices, imaging, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Exposure to MR or complex capital equipment environments.
  • Experience working with global supplier networks.
  • Background collaborating closely with engineering teams during early-stage product development.
