Introduction
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Transportation System Development, Southeast Region is seeking a Surveyor Advanced for the Survey/Plat Unit. This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from the Waukesha State Office Building at least 2 days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are generally expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin.

This position specializes in the development of right of way plats for highway improvements. The position establishes priorities to meet scheduled program needs, directs engineer specialists to accomplish priorities and provides technical training and review of all consultant prepared right of way plats and legal descriptions. The essential functions of this position are to guide other employees and consultants in performing right of way plat development activities.
It requires expertise in surveying, writing and interpreting legal descriptions, and using computers in highway plat development. Also required is fundamental knowledge of highway engineering and property acquisition procedures, and the ability to effectively cross communicate between these professions. This position will primarily focus on SE Region program areas including the Backbone, SE Freeways, and Connecting Highway projects. It will also support other region projects as needed.
This position works closely with the Region Survey Coordinator and Technical Applications Specialist for detailed review and analysis of data. This position also acts as the liaison and assists coordination of right-of-way activities between programmatic sections and serves as one of the main region contacts to support the general public, local officials, private land surveyors, and engineering consultants. This position is responsible for providing design and construction teams with R/W plat engineering guidance for the development of highway and bridge improvement plans.
Information
This position is in schedule-range (14-13) with an annual salary of $85,280-$97,760, plus excellent benefits. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan. A $3,000 sign-on bonus applies to those who do not have any prior permanent full-time state service in the last five years and agree to remain in the position for one year.
The $3,000 will be paid on the first paycheck.

QualificationsMinimally qualified applicants must currently hold a Wisconsin Professional Land Surveyor License.
