Kelly Services is hiring a High Voltage Test Technician for a specialized manufacturing opportunity in Waukesha, WI.

This role is ideal for someone with a background in electrical testing, power systems, transformer manufacturing, electrical engineering technology, utilities, or industrial electrical work who wants to build advanced expertise in the testing of large power transformers.

You'll support Final Acceptance Testing (FAT) on large power transformers and their components, performing everything from control wiring verification and low-voltage testing to performance and high-voltage dielectric testing.

Waukesha, WI Base Pay: $35.70/hour Shift Differential: +$2.00/hour Effective Hourly Rate: $37.70/hour

3rd Shift: 11:00 PM–7:00 AM Sunday–Thursday schedule

What You'll Be Doing

As a High Voltage Test Technician, you'll help verify that large power transformers meet engineering, performance, safety, and customer requirements before final acceptance.

Your work will include:

Control Wiring & Instrumentation
  • Verify control wiring and instrumentation prior to testing
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, test procedures, and equipment manuals
  • Test operation of fans, load tap changers, electronic monitors, and related controls
  • Set up and program electronic and PLC-based instrumentation
  • Troubleshoot wiring errors and make corrections as needed
Low & Medium Voltage Testing
  • Ratio testing
  • Doble testing
  • Hipot testing
  • Resistance testing
  • DGA-related testing
  • Current transformer testing
  • Capacitance and related electrical measurements
Transformer Test Setup
  • Set up and tear down transformers and test equipment
  • Prepare transformers for dielectric and performance testing
  • Verify safe test configurations before energizing equipment
  • Work closely with other technicians and engineers during complex testing
Performance Testing
  • Transformer loss testing
  • Sound-level measurements
  • Electrical performance verification

Testing environments may involve equipment operating up to approximately 345 kV and 20,000 amps.

High Voltage & Dielectric Testing
  • Lightning impulse testing
  • Switching surge testing
  • Applied voltage testing
  • Induced over-voltage testing
  • Partial discharge measurements

Certain test procedures may involve voltages approaching 2,000 kV.

Troubleshooting & Quality Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot failed or abnormal test results
  • Investigate root causes using technical procedures, SOPs, and engineering support
  • Document out-of-tolerance or noncompliant results
  • Identify and segregate nonconforming parts or materials
  • Support corrective actions
  • Maintain accurate electronic test records
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance on test equipment
  • Maintain organized work areas using 5S practices

  • OR At least 2 years of Transformer Factory Acceptance Testing or field commissioning experience
  • Additional backgrounds may also be considered, including Certified Industrial Journeyman or Master Electrician, 2-, 3-, or 4-year technical degree with at least 2 years of experience in electrical testing, design, field…
