Certified Welding Inspector - Quality Assurance Specialist I
Fickett Structural Solutions, Inc. is a structural engineering, inspection and testing firm with offices in Madison and Milwaukee Wisconsin, as well as Tennessee, Oregon, and Washington. We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) who is actively performing welding inspections. This person will be assigned to either our Madison or Milwaukee, Wisconsin office. We provide inspection and testing services during the construction of commercial structures such as buildings, stadiums and parking ramps, as well as shop fabrication inspections on bridges, buildings, and dams.
Most inspection work is fabricated to AWS D1.1 or D1.5 specifications. This is a direct hire position, not a contractor role.
- Perform visual inspections (VT) on structural steel for use in the construction of buildings, bridges, dams, and ancillary structures as specified by design, shop, and as-built drawings, specifications, and applicable industry codes
- Coordinates inspections with site project manager or responsible person in charge
- Coordinate and communicate with Engineer of Record as required
- Communicate with project personnel regarding work requirements, inspection findings, and identified defects or nonconformances
- Ensure proper care, maintenance, and use of specialized inspection and testing equipment
- Prepares timely, detailed reports of the inspection results, including descriptions, drawings, photos, etc., of nonconforming details with deficiencies noted
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, federal and state regulations, and client requirements
- Maintain compliance with AWS, ASTM, RCSC, IBC, ICC, OSHA and other applicable codes
- Promote safety awareness and model best practices during field and office activities
- Other responsibilities, as required/assigned
- Holds a current certificate as a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) with D1.1 or D1.5 work experience
- 1-year of experience or more as a CWI performing in-service weld inspections or shop welding inspections
- Is thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the methods for which he/she is certified and is able to exercise assigned responsibility without direct supervision
- Relevant experience with structural steel welding inspections, structural steel bolting inspections, and writing comprehensive reports
- Have, or ability to obtain within three months of hire, the ICC Special Inspections certification for 2.1 Structural Steel:
Steel High Strength Bolting and 2.2 Structural Steel:
Steel – Welding - Ability to define and document problems, collect data, evaluate facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to read and understand engineering and construction plans, specifications, industry codes and shop drawings
- Ability to work outside in various types of weather conditions
- Ability to work in aerial lifts utilizing appropriate PPE and safeguards
- Ability to drive company vehicle or own vehicle to various job sites
Qualifications:
- Documented proof of experience/on-the-job-training to meet the Level II requirements to SNT-TC-1A and Fickett Structural Solutions’ personnel specification for MT and UT Shear Wave
- Ability to successfully pass NDT Level II Certification to SNT-TC-1A and Fickett Structural Solutions’ personnel specification for MT and UT Shear Wave
- Have, or ability to obtain, the ICC Special Inspections certification for 2.1 Structural Steel:
Steel – Nondestructive Testing
- Ability to work in both office and non-office environments, such as construction job sites and fabrication shops
