reporting to the division manager/public health officer, the human services supervisor – environmental health, will provide supervision, leadership and coordination to environmental health unit engaged in environmental control measures to protect human health, safety and welfare. Additionally, the human services supervisor – environmental health will develop and lead in the implementation of public health strategies that support the public health division.

hourscore business hours are monday through friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Work schedule requires flexibility to work outside of core business hours, which include evenings and weekends. Assist and respond to on‑call public health division staff outside of the core business hours. There is possibility of comp time.

key responsibilities- supervises and directs environmental health unit activities. This would include evaluating work assignments, oversee staff performance, provide guidance, address personnel issues, communicate organizational functions, identify and support professional developmental needs, and promote a cooperative work environment within the environmental health unit.
- provide oversight and manage the state of wisconsin, agent contracts (local health departments that are designated to issue licenses, complete investigations and conduct inspections) and assures that requirements are met, including completion of all mandatory reports.
- maintains the state‑required designation of agent standard (certified as correctly interpreting and enforcing wisconsin administrative codes). Assures that all eligible environmental health staff are standardized by successfully completing field standardization exercises and maintaining active standardization status.
- obtain and maintain the lead hazard investigator certification to assist in prevention of childhood lead exposure through reducing lead hazards. Additionally, collaborate with public health nurses in providing technical assistance through case management.
- oversees the outagamie county public health water laboratory operations including water analysis/testing, certifications, audits, corrective action plans and training.
- manages and develops on an annual basis the environmental health unit budget. Actively monitors environmental health purchases throughout the year in adherence within the annual public health budget.
- lead in the developing, evaluating, and maintaining of codes, policies, and standards of environmental health. Lead and participate in public health division strategic planning, quality improvement, performance management and workforce development.
- assist the manager in interviewing and hiring of new employees. Trains new staff and assures ongoing training of existing staff.
- have a leadership role in maintaining the public health division emergency response for the environmental health unit. Complete and maintain applicable training/certificates to support emergency response roles and responsibilities. Maintains emergency preparedness core public health competencies by participating in preparedness training, exercises, and assists in emergency response.
- inspects and regulates regulated businesses, including food establishments, lodging facilities, recreational pools, campgrounds, manufactured home communities, tattoo and body piercing establishments, recreational camps and schools.
