POSITION SUMMARY
The Human Resources Intern performs entry-level professional and administrative human resources work in support of the Human Resources Department. This position provides practical experience in public sector human resources, including recruitment and selection, onboarding, records management, training support, HRIS data entry, employee engagement initiatives, and general HR administration.
The Intern works under close supervision and receives structured guidance while gaining exposure to employment law, public sector HR practices, civil service processes, and county policies and procedures. This internship is unpaid.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Assists with recruitment processes including updating and formatting job descriptions, reviewing applications, and screening interview questions.
- Assists with onboarding activities including preparation of new hire paperwork and orientation materials.
- Maintains and updates employee records in compliance with County policy and record retention requirements.
- Enters and audits data within the Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
- Assists with compensation and classification research, including gathering market data.
- Provides support for employee training and development initiatives.
- Assists with wellness, engagement, and recognition programs.
- Conducts basic research related to employment laws, HR best practices, and public-sector compliance requirements.
- Assists with preparation of reports, spreadsheets, and internal communications.
- Provides general administrative support to the Human Resources Department.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive employee and organizational information.
- Assists with reviewing performance evaluations and assisting managers with related employee communications.
- Assists with file management.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Currently enrolled in an accredited degree program in Human Resources, Business Administration/Management, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Labor Relations, or a closely related field.
