Overview

This Research Solutions Architect is responsible for assisting in integrating research goals, strategies, objectives, and metrics for the GU research community by providing project management, development, and consulting for research IT projects and resources within the domain of the Research Technologies division of UIS. Position will manage and support IT requirements of new and existing research projects in higher education fields, including but not exclusive to chemistry, physics, biology, genomics, and bioinformatics.

Incumbent will assure that baseline research technologies run effectively; and follow regulatory, compliance, data, and storage best practices. Helping the community identify and adopt emerging and enriched research IT resources is an important aspect of this position, as is helping the Research Technologies team develop strong customer relations and partnerships to enhance research and grant funding. They will support external data acquisition by acting as a liaison between researchers, JORA and UIS.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a consultant for researchers looking for the right technology supported by UIS for their research needs.
  • Gather research project requirements and match solutions to budget.
  • Work with JORA during the early grant application phase to support budget requests of grants.
  • Provide recommendations of research technology that UIS and GU should adopt based on interactions with research consortiums and internal research.
  • Collaborate daily with members of UIS and mobilize teams to provide solutions and resolve issues for research technology requirements.
  • Interact with research community to gather requirements and translate information for UIS processing.
  • Work directly with the general counsel to resolve grant and data requirements in research-related contracts.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in arts or science.
  • 5+ years’ work experience in either managing research technology or high-powered computing or bioinformatics systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in a research environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years providing technical support and project management to researchers in higher education or a related scientific industry.
  • Knowledge of protecting the security and integrity of databases and applications on the system and through the network; familiarity with operating systems.
  • Experience mobilizing research, technology and legal stakeholders to solve contractual and technological requirements for research projects.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and methodical.
  • Willingness to participate in a 24x7 support schedule for critical systems, potentially outside normal business hours.
Core Work Interaction

This role is a combination of consultative and engagement management for research technology support. The role collaborates daily with members of UIS including the AVP of System Engineering and Operations, the Chief Information Security Officer, and the AVP of Enterprise Services. The role must also work directly with the research community to translate requirements for UIS, and collaborate with the general counsel to work through grant and data requirements found in research related contracts.

Mode Designation

Hybrid – up to 25% of work may be expected to occur in‑person for events, meetings, and conferences. Work mode designations are regularly reviewed.

Pay Range

Projected salary or hourly pay range: $80,429.00 - $.
