Quality Assurance Technician III
The Quality Assurance Technician III (QATIII) facilitates customer complaints and customer warranty returns. The QATIII uses quality methods, techniques, standards to improve quality systems. The QATIII works on advanced applications and acts as knowledge leader for QATI & II.
Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesInclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Leads KHS teams in root cause analysis, problem solving, six sigma projects and other methods to ensure nonconforming products and processes are resolved/improved.
- Assists Quality Assurance Manager to determine the needs for additional measurement equipment to improve applications of MSA (Measurement System Analysis).
- Uses SPC (Statistical Process Control) participate with quality gates for new products, change to products and assist suppliers as needed to improve product/process capabilities.
- Assists Quality Assurance Manager with ASME (American Society Mechanical Engineering) processes to ensure we comply to technical weld requirements, documentation and meet other ASME Quality Manual requirements.
- Assists Quality Assurance Manager with training, procedures, work instructions, forms, to improve and maintain our quality system.
- Interacts with other departments to gain information regarding nonconformance; identifies errors on documentation and communicates and initiates changes to applicable department.
- Participates in MRB meetings to communicate nonconformance and collaborate on corrections.
- Communicates drawing specification deficiencies to the Engineering Department.
- Participates in quality system audits.
- Calibrates inspection tools as required.
- May train, mentor and instruct technicians, inspectors or other team members as requested.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide direction for QATI & II or others.
CompetenciesAn understanding of and ability to apply quality standard systems such as International Organization for Standardization (ISO); ability to set-up and use gages; a knowledge of and ability to apply American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) welding requirements for pressure vessels; ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks under time constraints

Education and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent; technical ability to read engineering standards, drawings, and have five years of experience related to quality assurance in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CertificationsTo gain the American Society for Quality certification or equivalent as a mechanical inspector, quality technician and/or auditor, ASME technical training, Certified Weld Inspector is preferred.
Language SkillsAn ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, drawings, safety rules, procedure, operating and maintenance manuals; ability to speak effectively to suppliers or employees.
