Scope of WorkThis position performs technical work of moderate difficulty in setting up and retrieving sampling equipment in support of the industrial pretreatment program, collecting and preserving samples, and performing standard chemical and bacteriological tests. Rotating weekend coverage with Lab Techs.

- Collects pretreatment samples from significant industry users and performs set up for analysis by laboratories.
- Analyzes wastewater samples following standard established methods as needed during weekdays and weekend rotations.
- Maintains sampling equipment and purchases pretreatment supplies.
- Conducts monitoring related to odor issues in the collections system.
- Provides help as needed for groundwater infiltration and flow capacity of WWTP studies.
- Monitors septic haulers; collects random samples; pre-inspects new sample sources to reduce oil loads coming to the pretreatment plant.
- Monitors water meter reading for billings as needed.
- Schedules, collects and packs WWTP samples to be analyzed by private laboratories.
- Monitors WWTP lift stations to reduce potential oil and grease build up in the system as issues arise.
- Cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment, utensils and facilities.
- Makes computations, prepares reports, and keeps records relating to sampling and tests performed.
- Assists with troubleshooting and maintaining the septage receiving station.
- Assists with sewer incident investigations such as spill and grease backups.
- Schedules and conducts groundwater and gas monitoring for various City projects, including quarterly samples for the West Ave Landfill.
- Manages and inspects grease traps/interceptors.
- Communicates with Food Service Establishments regarding proper record keeping, consistent grease cleaning schedules, and providing preventative maintenance procedures.
- Attends wastewater seminars and other training opportunities related to pretreatment.
- Familiarizes with the DNR Plant Permit and local regulations pertaining to the plant's collection system.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Valid Wisconsin driver's license.

- The employee may frequently be exposed to unpleasant conditions such as dust, odors, noise and toxic agents.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and sometimes in excess of 50 pounds.
- The employee occasionally works around and may need to enter confined spaces, such as manholes, to install sampling equipment.
